Financial Literacy Online Course for Kids
Prepare your children. Provide them with the education of basic money management skills that they will use through-out their life. And do it in only 15 minutes a week.
For parents who understand the value of taking an active role in the financial education of their children. We are capable of better preparing our children for the future. The information here is not given the importance it deserves in our current school system, but your child can learn these skills and be able to confidently incorporate them today and into the future.
Did your schooling prepare you to be able to manage your money well? Did you have even a basic financial understanding when you graduated high school?
Do you worry about how your kids are going to be prepared to make financial decisions when they grow up?
Are you concerned that they don’t appreciate the value of money now?
Do you wish that Financial Literacy was better taught in schools, and not just as an elective class once they reach high school, but a subject that was given value and importance at a young age?
Is it frustrating to you that such useful information, such as money management, something that people use, from one degree to another, each and every day of their life, is almost completely over-looked in the education system?
Have you tried educating your children about money on your own? Have you had a hard time piecing together cohesive lessons with the bits and pieces of resources that are out there?
Is it completely over-whelming to think of taking on the task of preparing your kids to manage money well?
Does it feel like you have no time or energy left in your day to teach your kids extra things that they should be learning in school in the first place?
I’ve been there. I’ve worried about each and every one of those things.
For awhile, I didn’t know how I was going to help my children receive the valuable financial education that I knew they needed.
I looked for some kind of easy to use, ready-to-go product. I wanted a comprehensive resource that covered a variety of topics and gave them a solid foundation to begin with.
I found quite a few great books and websites out there, but nothing that seemed to cover as much information as I was hoping to teach my kids. I just wasn’t seeing anything that was thorough or inclusive enough.
So, fed up with not being able to find what I was looking for, I decided to create it myself.

5 AWESOME BENEFITS FOR PARENTS:
PEACE OF MIND - You will know that you are doing the best you can at providing your child with the financial education they deserve.
NO PREP TIME! You are welcome! I do all the prep work for you (and it is A LOT of work!!) You can just print out the worksheets, press play on the videos, and off you go!
WORKS WITH YOUR BUSY SCHEDULE! I know, you have a million demands. I know the housework is piling up, the kids need to be dropped off, picked up, cleaned, fed, taught manners, helped with homework, loved, cared for…. Who the heck has time to add anything else? Well, guess what? I’ve created the material so that it works for you and whatever your schedule is. You could even only commit to 15 minutes a week, and your child will still be getting the financial education that they need to succeed!
NO BACKGROUND IN FINANCES REQUIRED. Do you worry about your ability to teach your kids about money because of the lack of education in your schools growing up? Don’t worry! I’ve designed this course so that a child is able to grasp most of the information all on their own – taking time to define new words, using graphics to better explain certain processes, and incorporating worksheets at the end of lessons to help them remember what they heard. Hey, maybe you’ll be able to learn a thing or two that could help you! I know I learned things myself when researching and putting together this course!
SEEING YOUR CHILD’S POTENTIAL GROW. There is nothing like seeing your child light up as they learn a new concept that has value and meaning to them, and especially when knowing that this new information is something they will actually use to help them in real life situations.
5 AWESOME BENEFITS FOR KIDS:
BETTER PREPARED. Your child will be ready to better manage whatever money they have access to right now, and they will be learning lessons that could help them all the way up to retirement age! These lessons can be applied at each stage of their life. By taking the time to incorporate these lessons into your schedule, your child will be better equipped to handle the responsibilities that will come their way.
INCREASED CONFIDENCE. Your child will be years ahead of their time, and that self-assurance will shine through! By learning and applying these lessons in their lives, your child will be able to confidently approach a variety of financial situations.
HEALTHY MINDSET. This is not just an academy that teaches about finance. There is so much more to money than just learning about dollars and cents. Our material was designed to help kids succeed in life by incorporating core values, such as gratitude, and teaching them to have a healthy, balanced attitude and approach when it comes to not only money, but with virtually any decision they will face.
EMPOWERED. Through the knowledge your child will gain when they become students of our academy, they will learn the valuable lesson that their life is the sum of their choices. This course helps teach that it is their own attitude, willingness to work, and lifestyle choices that determine their present and future situations – financially and otherwise. Empowerment can be one of the most beneficial gifts that we can teach our children, when taught in a positive way.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: Do I need to enter any personal information about my child to become a member?
A: Definitely not. I’m a mother, and I understand the importance of protecting the privacy of your child. Sign up using your own name and email address. You will never be asked for any personal information regarding your child.
Q: Does my child need to have any prior knowledge about money?
A: No. This can be their first introduction to money. We start with the basics. It also can be a great review, at times, for older children who’ve had some experience with money and money lessons.
Q: What skills will my child need to have to complete this course?
A: They just need to know how to read and write, and do some basic math. Some kids will need a little more assistance than others.
Q: Do I need to watch the videos with my child?
A: It’s up to you. The lessons were designed so that a child could understand the concepts on their own, however, parent involvement will greatly enhance the learning experience, and make a big difference. The best way to help your child remember what they’ve learned in the course is to incorporate it into your life. It will help a great deal if you know and understand the things they are learning about, so that you can have your own conversations about the lessons at home and really personalize the education as they see examples of what they’re learning in the world around them – such as going to the bank or seeing you use a debit card.
Q: How long does the course take to complete?
A: It’s entirely up to you! There are 37 videos and 33 worksheets for the child to complete. Some videos are as short as 2 minutes, some are as long as 15 minutes. The average length of video is 8 minutes. The total time for all the videos is a little over 4 hours, and the time spent altogether for the entire course – videos and worksheets is about 8-10 hours, which can be split up in whatever way works best for your family.
Q: Is the "Financial Literacy" workbook mailed to me?
A: No. It comes with a downloadable PDF file. The workbook is a total of 64 pages. There are several options when it comes to printing. Click here for a full explanation.
Q: If I have more than one child, do I need to sign them up separately and pay for multiple memberships?
A: No. The price of the course is per household, so feel free to use it for the entire family. However, it is violating the Terms and Conditions to share your log in and password with people outside of your household. Please honor this. A lot of time and effort was put into the creation of this academy, and in order to be able to continue offering content, I need to ask that you please only use your membership for members of your household. Thank you!
Q: How long do I have access to this course?
A: Forever! There is no expiration date, no time limits. Finish the course in one week, or space it out over a year. Have your kids retake the course every year to help them remember the lessons. Whatever you choose!
Q: What if I buy the course, and I don't like it?
A: I sure hope that doesn’t happen, but above all, I want you to be happy and feel that you received more than your money’s worth when buying this course. A lot of love went into the creation of this course, and I stand by what I offer. If, for any reason at all, you decide that this course did not live up to your expectations, simply send me an email at: learn@orangeowlacademy, and I will promptly issue you a full refund.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING:
“I purchased Orange Owl Academy's Financial Literacy program for my kids to work on in the summer! I downloaded everything and put it in a binder. Everything is so well organized and simple to use and follow. Laurie has created the program to be fun and interesting. I even enjoy learning and doing the activities! I'm so glad I found this, since financial classes are not taught very often in public schools. I'd recommend her program to anyone who has kids. We have learned so much! Thank you!!!”
Holly Barker - Mom of 5
“It's fun to learn about money and I like doing the activities in the Orange Owl Financial Literacy program. It doesn't feel like I'm doing homework because it's so fun!”
William - age 9
“All youth need solid financial literacy skills for adulthood. I recently started a distance education program with our school. I didn’t want to recreate the wheel with writing a financial literacy program for students. That can be super time consuming! I researched several programs and came away with a winner: Orange Owl Academy! There are several solid financial literacy programs but Orange Owl covered areas that many programs lacked.”
Robbin Clark - Expanded Core Curriculum Coordinator, Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind
“I like doing the Financial Literacy program on the computer. The videos are fun and I like doing the activities and games. It's much more interesting than normal workout books that my Mom usually has me do.”
Darci - age 13

WHO IS TEACHER TAYLOR?
Hi! My name is Laurie Taylor (known as “Teacher Taylor” to my students), founder of Orange Owl Academy. I am passionate about educating children, especially when it comes to teaching about money.
As a mom of three young boys, I used to worry that they were not being educated financially, and I knew this was a problem for a lot of families. I decided to make it my mission to provide the easiest way possible for parents to help teach their kids about money, and Orange Owl Academy was born.
While our current education system can be useful and effective in certain ways, I feel that one area where it really falls short is preparing our children with the financial knowledge they need to be able to function as self-sufficient, well-balanced adults once they are living on their own and out of the school system.
My goal is to provide a way to help fill those gaps. I feel it is so important to educate our children in the financial life skills that they will actually use – sometimes on a daily basis – in real life.
I love to be able to share with my students things that I have learned in my life that help me every day – things that I wish I had been taught at a young age.
I currently live in Connecticut with my husband, three sons, and one fluffy kitty cat. I love creating. I love education. I love the idea of expanding our human potential, and I think there is no better place to start than educating children.
I also love anything chocolate and sparkly.
Welcome to Orange Owl Academy! I’m so glad you are here! : )

“The Story of Rich’s Riches” was written by me (Teacher Taylor), and illustrated by my 11-year old son, Kent Taylor.
It's a fun children’s chapter book that tells the story of an 11-year old boy named Rich, who wants, more than anything in the world, to go to Art Camp. But, he needs to earn the money for it all by himself!
Join Rich on his journey as he learns about: the importance of setting goals, not giving up, working hard, having a clear plan, how much things cost, organizing money into “Give, Save, and Spend” categories, dealing with criticism, following your dreams, and through it all, being grateful for the whole experience.
Kids can read it on their own, or better yet, you can enjoy it together! Either way, it's a great step towards teaching your child healthy money habits!
